Sourcing
Sourcing New Product Lines or Commodities:
If you require a product or commodity that we do not already supply, we will be happy to source it for you. Simply use the Sourcing Request Form in your account page. We charge a small sourcing fee of 6,000,000 Rp (approx USD $370), which is refunded in full against your first full container order.
Responsible Produce, Product & Material Sourcing:
We care about the environment we live in, so we ethically source all of the produce, products & materials we supply. Whether it's timber, stone, bamboo, textiles, ceramics, spices, tea or coffee. We ensure our supply chain adhere to environmentally sound practices that ensure the sustainability of our landscape, wildlife, habitats & the people who live within it.
This means that you can buy with confidence & peace of mind that we are working to help maintain or improve our environment, where ever possible.
Timber:
We only source timber that is certified to the INDO-TLAS/Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu (SVLK) certification scheme, in line with the EU VPA and FLEGT processes.
We ensure the following applies to all timber before we purchase it:
- No sources are illegally harvested.
- No sources are harvested in violation of both traditional & human rights.
- No sources are from forests or areas in which high conservation values are threatened by management activities.
- No sources are from forests being converted to plantations or non-forest use.
- No sources contain CITES listed species.
- No sources use or fell rare or endangered tree species.
Bamboo:
Currently all our suppliers of bamboo, harvest using hand tools only. It is cut on a three year cycle (similar to coppicing) during the dry season, & only during 'no moon' phases. This ensures strength & durability, as well as creating a mosaic of different habitats for wildlife to thrive in.
Coffee:
We only source our coffee beans from single origin, small scale farms. We do not buy from large estates & all our coffee producers only use natural animal waste as fertilizer. They all grow mixed crops (secondary shade producing crops) which helps avoid creating a mono-culture environment & improve water retention, whilst also preventing soil erosion. This system helps to create a better, more diverse habitat for insects, birds & mammals. As all the farms we buy from are small scale producers, we do not pressure them into signing up to any certification programs (such as Fair Trade), as these are prohibitively expensive for small scale rural producers.
Other Crops:
When we are asked to source other crops (like herbs, spices, etc), we only contact grower's who can guarantee the following:
- Only natural fertilizers are used.
- No use of chemicals or sprays.
- No mono-culture plantations.
- No GM crops.
- No forced labour.
Upcycled:
We already supply upcycled furniture, made from oil drums. We are also looking at new furniture product lines made from waste rubber & other recycled waste materials.
Plastic:
We actively take part in a local 'Get Plastik' scheme which converts local waste plastic back into diesel, petrol & gas, we use these in our supply vehicles along with other bio-fuels. We are also currently working with a local company to recycle & upcycle used HDPE plastic into new products.
